"social media" is a collection of websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. many people all over the world use social medias like tiktok, snapchat, instagram and facebook to express themselves, by finding out information about their interests, find like minded people and more. many people even make careers out of social media, or use their platform to promote their product. however, social media does come with some downsides. it's easy to get addicted to social media, using likes and follows as validation, and feeling like you 'aren't enough' if you dont reach your goals. to prevent this, try and limit your time on social media, and try not to care about the amount of 'likes' on a post.

there are laws to protect you on the internet. it's illegal to distribute inappropriate pictures of any minor (a person under the age of 18 ), even if the person distributing is a minor themselves. it's illegal to have these on your phone, and it could contribute to your digital footprint.

digital footprint

digital footprint is defined as 'the information about a particular person that exists on the internet as a result of their online activity.' this means that whenever you post (comments, videos, stories etc), it contributes to your digital footprint. digital footprint is permanent, which means it cannot be erased or removed from the internet. many forms of social media platforms (like tiktok and instagram) keep a log of your data, which is impossible to remove. your digital footprint can have extreme consequences, and can affect you later in life. for example, employers do a check of your digital footprint before they hire you. this means if you post/say something nasty online, it can be tracked back to you and an employer may not hire you. to prevent your digital footprint from being bad, think how something could effect you before you post.
